Why Now?

For 25 years I had a great gig as the Public Relations Coordinator for HLS Orthodontics. (I liked to say I was an officer with the Teeth Police whose mission was to round up crooked culprits, put them behind bars, and not turn them loose until we set them all straight!) I’ve also been a certified Reiki Master for over 20 years and I help people smooth out the wrinkles in life whether it’s on a physical, mental, or emotional plane. In my spare time I read a lot and walk a lot at Wildwood Metropark. I keep a novel at my bedside, a non-fiction book at my kitchen table, and an audible book available for walks or for the car so I’m constantly exposed to various viewpoints.

Before I retired from HLS, I had plenty of people from co-workers to clients who were forced to listen to all the interesting things I had read. But now I’ve lost a big chunk of my audience with which to share all those interesting things bouncing around my brain. So, I decided to set up a place where I can share useful, fun information to anyone who wants to listen. Unlike my co-workers who could only hide in so many places from me, or my Reiki clients who are stuck under my hands on the massage table – you get to decide if there is something here that just might benefit you. My heartfelt wish is that you do.

I love to digest books dealing with improving health and then break them up into tasty tidbits to share!

    1. Thank you, Karol, for giving me my first review! It’s still amazing to me how we met in May, 2001 on a return flight from Seattle. During our four hour trip to Detroit, we talked non-stop, became friends, and you even adopted me as your little sister. Since then, I’ve visited you in your lovely home in Maryland several times and we stay in touch over the phone/computer. What an awesome world we live in where a chance meeting can turn into a lifelong friendship!

      1. Yes, who would have thought we would have this awesome friendship from our meeting in Seattle. But somehow, I just knew we would always have that connection and bond. So glad you are in my life and I cherish every visit we have had. It will be forever!

  2. I loved your blog. I am a foodie. I am interested in how other people eat and live. I was not aware that you were reading so many damn diet books. I try very hard to eat clean. I’ve been using this time to eat even cleaner as the temptation of eating out is off the table. I also had the cholesterol issue but my body rejected the statins. I had terrible muscle pain. I lowered my cholesterol with chia seeds and flax seeds. I look forward to the next blog. Stay healthy my cousin and we will plan a lunch soon😍

    1. Hi Pam! What a funny way for us to connect but any way, is a good way. Yep, everything I wrote is true. My daughter in law, Kim, thought I was anorexic since dieting was my favorite topic! The Daily Dozen recommends one tablespoon of flax seeds so I just added that to my diet. After I talk about the value of vinegar, I’m going to do a piece on black cumin. It’s not related to the cumin we add to bean dishes, although 1/2 tsp of that kind of cumin is also recommended daily. I bought some black cumin off Amazon and it is kind of pepperish in taste. I’m actually using it in place of pepper. Studies have show that 1/4 tsp every day appears to reduce body mass within a span of a few months. It also appears to lower cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar! I have a blood sugar and a lipid panel done every six months. When I’m due for one in June, I’ll have been doing a fair number of “Tweaks” so it will be VERY interesting to see if it drops those numbers. Thanks for commenting and hope to see you and the rest of the Chalet contingent sometime soon!

  3. Wendy-I’m at a loss for words about where to begin to express my gratitude for your love, friendship, emotional support and positive attitude over the years of really getting to know you since we first met when your sister married my brother 50 years ago.

Although our bond didn’t really begin to grow until we both went through some wrenching life changing relationship break ups with mates, it just proves positive things can come from adversity.

Instead of wallowing in fear, depression and escapism during the COVID crisis you have embraced this time of temporary job loss and isolation as a way to share your positive energy and thoughts with current and potential new friends looking for rays of sunshine as you share your reflections from your daily Walks in the Wildwood Park.

Your Blog is an amazing and uplifting expression of who you are and proof that great things come in small packages.

I look forward to reading each one. And of course our weekly chats. Love from your other sister.
