Cloud Sourcing

This post is about a meditation technique that I use to relax and recharge. I’m going to introduce something so simple a child could do it. It sounds crazy, but it works especially well for people that have trouble achieving clarity by sitting quietly and trying to watch their cloudy thoughts pass by. Doing meditation this way, allows you to focus on watching actual clouds float by. Instead of the tried and true method of closing your eyes and looking inward, I open my eyes and look up.

It only requires two things to do it: clouds and a very open mind! The best ones to start with are cirrus clouds above 20,000 feet. They are typically thin and wispy, so they’re easy to play with. Play with?! Yep, you just pick a spot and focus your energy on teasing the wispy edges off. You concentrate on the wisp and “poof” it will disappear. This type of cloud has a tendency to do that all on its own anyways, but it is SO empowering to see it happen before your very eyes and claim responsibility! Would it do it if you weren’t sending it positive vibes? Maybe yes, maybe no. But the power is thinking you can and thereby ramping up your own energy!

In the last 50 years I’ve fine tuned the art of Cloud Sourcing to work with stratus, cumulus, and even some nimbus clouds here and there. I have had varying degrees of success with all. The only type of cloud cover that won’t respond to positive energy blasts are heavy, low hanging solid gray cloud cover with absolutely no sign of blue sky. You need some bit of thinness to the clouds to wedge your concentrated thought beam between to pull them gently apart.

Besides being a very invigorating, yet relaxing, mental exercise, I have also found another use for minor manipulation of clouds. When someone lets me know about an event they have planned, I promise to “work on the weather” for them. Weddings are the prime event I’m asked to work on, especially ones taking place outside without a backup inside plan! I put the day, the time, and the place on my calendar. I also ask what the most crucial few hours will be. I start watching the weather reports for days leading up to the event and then really start focusing intensely on THE day and those crucial hours. My success rate is about 95% so that’s much better than average and as a bonus it makes the perfect wedding gift!

One of my favorite times of cloud sourcing was in Old Hickory, Tennessee on August 21, 2017. I had gathered with family and friends on various boats in the middle of a small lake to watch a total eclipse of the sun. It definitely would have been a downer if it had been overcast! Instead, we got to experience the eeriness of the hush of evening at just past noon as the ducks glided in on the lake and the birds settled in the trees as the lights went out.

Am I really Wendy the Weather Girl? The question should be: Do I THINK I actually have any control over weather? The answer is anyone, anywhere has the freedom to think whatever they want. This is a true statement whether they are free or imprisoned. We choose our thoughts. I happen to think weather is subject to change at any time and that the power of thought can be an instrument to possibly tweak it a bit. This thought isn’t just harmless; it’s helpful for brides because it leaves them one less thing to worry about! In any case, before you knock it, why not try it? I promise that you will feel pretty darned powerful after you go outside and pull apart a cloud or two.
